The Brazils of King's/Queen's County
While in modern times King's County, or Offaly as it is now known, appears to
be one of the Brazil homelands it now appears that this isn't true. The new
theory is that in the 16th century when the O'Breasail clan were cleared out of
Queens County by Crosby and transplanted to Count Kerry a number of families or
individuals escaped and fled westwards to Kings County.
A great number of families are listed in the Griffith Survey. This has
not yet been checked.
Considerable work remains to be done in sorting out the mass of data
accumulated on these families since 1864.
The following families have been identified but it is obvious that some of
those appearing later than 1864 are in fact members of earlier families. This is
the only area where the spelling is given as Brazel or Brazil interchangeably
even within the same family.
